Pain level
The sideburn is a vertical surface piercing in the temporal area, placed in front of the tragus and ear. A surface barbell passes beneath two points of skin in the temple zone. Its location makes it vulnerable to friction from glasses, phones, and hair, which demands attentive care throughout a typically long healing period.
Compatible jewelry
Surface barbell in ASTM F136 titanium. Common gauge: 14 gauge.
Aftercare
Clean with sterile saline twice daily. Avoid pressure on the jewelry — do not sleep on the pierced side. Keep hair and glasses away from the area during healing.
Contraindications
Facial hair or sideburns in the piercing area (rejection and infection risk), daily wear of thick-framed glasses, very thin skin. As with all surface piercings, long-term rejection remains a real possibility.
